Third Floor John
Formed in the early 70's at Central College in Pella IA, this
band was an unlikely blend of five guys from all corners of
the country. But somehow the chemistry just worked. From
1970-1974, the band entertained at campus venues such as
Rap (the coffee house in the basement of the Student Union)
and Douwstra Auditorium. They also also released a
self-titled LP, performed at private parties, conventions (i.e.
the Iowa Funeral Directors and Embalmers Assoc.) and
weddings.
After a 30 year hiatus, in September 2004 the band reunited
for a reunion concert at Central College Homecoming. During
that reunion, the band members discussed the idea of
getting together for a recording project to benefit the Songs
of Love Foundation. In June of 2005 the band met in
Arlington TX where they wrote special uplifting songs for two
chronically ill children.
From this an annual tradition was born. Each summer, the
members of Third Floor John (www.thirdfloorjohn.com)
volunteer their time and talents, converging from all over the
country to write and record two Songs of Love for medically
challenged kids.
